I Was Hungry
Working in conjunction with the Loaves and Fishes food pantry, the Blue Ridge Church of Christ delivers bags of food to needy people in our community. Members of the church and other volunteers report to the pantry at Jackson-Via Elementary School at 8:30 AM on the third Saturday of the month, pack bags of food and deliver them to more than 70 people by noon. This program is very helpful to members of the community who are homebound and unable to go to the pantry to pick up food.
The “I Was Hungry” program was started in 1999 and always welcomes volunteers. Call program coordinator John Duffy at (434) 979-5543 if you have any questions.
Special Note: In August, we will make our delivery on the fourth Saturday of the month (August 22) as the result of a scheduling conflict with another church event. Otherwise, we are planning on delivering on the third Saturday of the month for the rest of 2009.
“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat,
I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink,
I was a stranger and you invited me in…”
Matthew 25:35
